A school in Bolton could see its Christmas play screened to millions of TVs across the UK after being named as a finalist in Virgin Media’s Christmas Stars competition for the second year in a row.

Ladywood Special School entered its play, A Special Delivery, into the competition to find the UK’s best primary school play. The school was named as the runner up of 2018’s competition and are now looking to scoop the top prize in 2019’s competition.

The school has the chance to have its play professionally filmed and televised to four million Virgin TV customers in the lead up to Christmas.

In its entry, the school said it deserved to win because: “Every day they [our pupils] live our motto; believe and achieve. Last year we were runners up, the children were so excited to sign and sing their song. This year they asked if we could enter again and this time show off their acting skills.”

The winners will get to work with TV presenter, Stephen Mulhern, who will join the school’s cast to play the role of narrator.

Other prizes include £5,000 and experiencing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock the Musical.

The school said: “We are really proud of our children at Ladywood, despite their special needs, they all achieve amazing things. They dance, sing, sign or act, there are no limits and we would love the nation to see this.”

David Bouchier, Chief Digital Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media, said: “A huge congratulations to Bolton’s Ladywood Special School for being named as a finalist in our magical Christmas Stars competition.

“Stay tuned to find out who will be our winner – good luck everyone at Ladywood!”
