DRIVERS have been reprimanded by police for "compromising the safety of children" by parking outside a primary school entrance.

Seven drivers' details have been taken by officers who spotted vehicles parked on yellow zig-zag lines outside Red Lane Primary School in Breightmet this morning.

Patrols said the checks were part of "enforcement action" outside the school in Red Lane.

There are 'no stopping' signs outside the school's main entrance, indicating no stopping between 8am and 5pm, and also yellow zig-zag lines which state 'SCHOOL KEEP CLEAR'.

According to Highway Code Rule 243, you should not park near a school entrance.

Yellow zig-zag lines outside schools indicate the section of road where stopping or waiting is strictly prohibited. The presence of an upright sign may also indicate a mandatory prohibition of stopping during the times shown.

The police can issue a ticket for causing an obstruction to either other traffic or pedestrians.

Greater Manchester Police's Bolton North team tweeted this morning: "As a result of enforcement action this morning outside Red Lane Primary School, Breightmet, SEVEN drivers details have been obtained for stopping on the zig-zags outside of the school. Stopped here compromises the safety of your children."
