A BROKEN-down train has blocked railway lines between Bolton and Preston, causing long delays.
The vehicle stopped at around 2.30pm and engineers are currently at the scene trying to repair it but the blockage is not expected to be clear for at least an hour.
A spokesman for Northern said some services may be delayed by up to half an hour.
They added: "Services between Bolton and Preston are subject to delay due to a train failure, an assisting train is on site and efforts are being made to recover the failed train.
"For passengers on station platforms, please listen for announcements or consult customer information screens for up to date train running information."
