A WOMAN has been arrested as part of an investigation into modern slavery and human trafficking.
GMP detained the 43-year-old yesterday at a house in Manchester following a joint operation with Romanian police.
She will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today to being deportation proceedings over four human trafficking offences thought to have happened in Romania.
It follows a major trafficking raid in Bolton on Tuesday, which saw a 35-year-old woman arrested and a search of Diamond Nails in Blackburn Road.
Detective Inspector Jamie Pearson said: “This is a fantastic result, which showcases the excellent partnership working of Programme Challenger and our embedded Romanian Police Officer, Superintendent George Safta. George came to GMP in November 2019 and has continued the hard work of his predecessor. He has brought invaluable knowledge with him, which is of huge benefit to specific investigations such as this one.”
On Tuesday, police arrested six people and raided nail bars in Bolton, Darwen and Blackburn in the early hours.
The operation was part of an investigation into nail bars allegedly employing illegal immigrants, money laundering and potential human trafficking offences.
