TRIBUTES have poured in for one half of social media sensation, Dimples and Wrinkles, who died suddenly at the weekend.

Christine Reeves, also known by her online name of Wrinkles, accumulated more than 190,000 fans and supporters after her son Steve started posting comical videos of the pair on Facebook just over six years ago.

The 71-year-old, from Nelson, died on Saturday after she began to struggle with her breathing. Paramedics were called but the much-loved grandmother died shortly after.

Steve, who set up the Facebook page Dimples and Wrinkles in 2013, has paid tribute to his ‘amazing mother.’

He said: “Mum has been through some tough times in the past and we became much closer around 15 years ago when I started to spend a lot more time with her.

“Friends and family were picking up on the banter we had with each other and found it hilarious. We just bounced off each other.

“One day I decided to post a video she didn’t know had been filmed online and the response was enormous. The second video I ever posted to my page got over 10 million views and shortly after that I decided to set up our very own Facebook page.”

The comical snippets would show the pair bickering and taunting each other, often inside or on their way to Morrisons.

Now thousands have offered messages of support and condolences to Steve and his family, while others have recorded videos of their own or written poems in tribute to Christine.

One wrote: “This has completely shocked me. My condolences to you and all of your family.

“This world has just lost a funny, amazing lady.”

Another added: “So sorry for your loss. Bless her for all the laughs she gave me. She was a beautiful soul, loved the banter. I pray for you and your family for the strength you need. Thank you so much for sharing your mum with us.”

But despite the major following, Steve admits his mum never really understood how loved she was.

He said: “I don’t think she ever realised the impact she had. Deep down she hadn’t really grasped that thousands of people were watching our videos and that she was providing them with joy in some of their hardest times.

“What we did together was never an act, it was just genuinely the way we were around one another.

“I don’t know anybody else who has ever been able to do what we did – not many mothers and sons go out and do that kind of thing together.

“But without sounding too morbid, life is about death and death is about grief and it is a cycle we all need to go through.

“Mum was lucky and she lived a full life and she’s captured the hearts of a lot of people before she went and that makes me very proud.”

Steve is encouraging any followers who want to, to send condolences card to his mother’s home in a bid to ‘fill the home with love.’
