A MOTHER is demanding change after a car crashed into her home for the fourth time.

Joanne Angus was in her house in Tetbury Drive, Breightmet, with her 11-year-old son on Monday night when a stolen Land Rover fleeing from police burst through her privet hedge.

A tyre was ripped off the vehicle and it stopped just in front of the home, leaving a trail of damage in its wake.

The 49-year-old is furious with Bolton Council for a lack of action on speeding drivers in the road.

The property has now been damaged on four separate occasions in the last ten years - on occasion ploughing through the garage - costing as much as £80,000 in repairs.

“We were in the kitchen and we heard a loud bang and saw flashing lights,” Mrs Angus said.

“I thought somebody had been run over. The police were there and all the neighbours were out looking. It was inches away from my car and if it hadn’t hit the kerb and slowed it would have hit the house.”

Despite asking the council for a chicane to be installed in the road, Mrs Angus, who works as a chef, has been told that ‘traffic calming’ measures are not possible and feels that nothing will be done until somebody is hurt.

She added: “Why should we have to wait for one of my family to be killed for something to happen?”

In response to Mrs Angus, a spokesman for Bolton Council said: “Road safety is a major priority for the council.

“However, we prioritise where traffic calming measures are introduced based on evidence provided by the police and there has been only one recorded minor injury caused by a traffic accident on this road in the last five years.

“Once we receive the police report into the causes of this accident, we will look to see if any further action is necessary.”
