HERE we see a great shot of Green Street in Darwen, taken in 1904.

It has the Angel Inn pictured on the right, at the junction of Market Street.

The pub seems to be receiving a delivery at its side door, with a cart belonging to Medico Ltd — a chemists selling saddlery and trunks.

Just beyond are the premises of a plumber, Edward Wrighton.

The drapers shop in the foreground on the left was also the receiving office for the Rosehill Laundry at Blackburn.

All the buildings in Green Street were demolished in the 1920s, in the Lumb Street, Water Street and Green Street entrance.

The road looks very different now, with wider lanes and a one-way system in place.

Those horse and cart owners would not recognise the street as it is today — and there would be a great deal more traffic on the road to deal with.
