PROPOSALS to change the speed limit of a main road have been put forward by Bolton Council.
The council has plans to reduce the speed limit of Hewlett Way, Dobb Brow Road and Wigan Road from 40mph to 30mph.
The proposed changes come as the building of 50 homes commenced earlier this year in Wigan Road, at the site of the demolished greyhound stadium.
Concerns have been raised by Westhoughton councillors about traffic in the area and the dangers that may be posed by an increase in the volume of cars on the roads.
The proposed traffic regulation order published on the Bolton Council website read: "The speed limit reduction from 40mph to 30mph will help improve visibility requirements from the residential road onto the classified road."
The order also includes a restriction on waiting times, proposing no waiting at any time in Wigan Road (south side), Hewlett Way (both sides), Dobb Brow Road (west side).
The council said: "The promotion of parking restrictions at the access junction will help to enforce these visibility requirements."
The closing date for objections to the change is January 20 and can be in email or letter form.
