DRIVERS are being urged to exercise caution while travelling down a busy Denbighshire road.

Due to the steepness of Gwaenysgor Hill, near Prestatyn, Denbighshire County Council is unable to grit the roads.

In a video released by the council on Friday, December 27 Tim Towers, of the council's highways and environmental services, advises motorists to avoid the route altogether in icy conditions.

Mr Towers said: "Gwaenysgor Hill, near Prestatyn is a very busy route and we accept it is very, very steep.

"In icy conditions, it is dangerous - too dangerous for us to salt.

"We have put up signs warning drivers that it isn't salted, and those are only shown when we have a forecast of frost.

"The area has its own microclimate, so it isn't necessarily a frosty road.

"I would like to say to drivers that if it looks icy, then please take care or don't use it. once you start going down or up you will be stuck and you will slide."
