VOLUNTEERS have revealed they raised more than £40,000 for the Royal British Legion this year.

The Horwich branch of the Royal British Legion has announced that the volunteers raised a staggering £40,766 during their campaign in November.

The new chair of the Horwich branch, Craig Rotheram, said: "This year's Horwich Poppy Appeal exceeded all our expectations, smashing last year's total. This could not happen without the help of all our volunteers and the incredible generosity of the Horwich community, schools, businesses, local groups and organisations.

"Everyone should be very proud of Horwich and not forget the strength of generosity in our community, has never been stronger. On behalf of the Horwich branch of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal we would like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you."

Mr Rotheram said: "We could always do with more volunteers to help cover the Poppy Appeal tables at our local supermarkets. We promise the experience will warm your heart."
