RESIDENTS have been allowed to return to their homes after police confirmed that a suspicious package posed "no current risk to the public".
A bomb disposal team was called after the item was found in an abandoned car in Car Bank Street, Atherton, near the junction of Flapper Fold Lane.
An explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) unit assessed the item.
A police cordon is set to remain in place while officers conclude their investigation.
Some homes had been evacuated as a precaution but those residents are now able to return.
Police have thanked the community for their co-operation during their operations.
