THE driver of a suspected stolen car lost control and ploughed into an office building.

The Audi had been travelling from the direction of the Sutton Estate Community Centre car park in Addington Road, Deane, when it smashed into the single storey building on Sunday night.

In a Facebook post GMP Bolton North confirmed that the car is believed to have been stolen from Wigan.

Extensive damage has been caused to the office building, including cracked and shattered brick work, leaving piles of debris.

A metal barrier outside the building was also pulverized and a nearby telegraphy pole was felled and came to rest on the crashed vehicle.

Much of the damaged office is now boarded up and fenced off.

The building is used by the estate’s housing association, operated by Clarion Housing, for day-to-day management of the area and its tenants.

A spokesman for Clarion Housing said: “Police have indicated a car had been stolen from the Wigan area and a subsequent police chase resulted in the car damaging one of our properties.

“We have been liaising with the Police, however since the incident was not directly related to our estate, our priority has been to assess the damage caused and ensure our building is safe and secure.

“We will be relocating staff while we consider our options. Residents are able to get in touch as usual by calling our customer contact centre telephone number and the neighbourhood team will still be making home visits – day to day business is not affected.”

One resident of the area told The Bolton News he was worried for the safety of children in the area as many cars have been seen speeding in the estate.

He said: “It’s madness up and down here. It’s like people are using it as a racing track.

“They must be going around 80 miles an hour and it’s so bad because there’s kids on this estate.”

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “At around 9.20am on Sunday 5 January 2019 police were called to a report that a car had collided into a building on Addington Road in Bolton.

“The grey Audi which is believed to be stolen crashed into a housing association on Addington road.”
