MOUNTAIN rescue volunteers had an extremely busy start to the year with four callouts in five days.

Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team's rush started on Thursday with a call from Lancashire Police to assist an 80-year-old woman who had tripped and fallen injuring her head.

The Bowland Pennine MRT with 16 volunteers were quickly on scene at the popular walking area of Nicky Nook in the Forest of Bowland.

Paramedics treated her and then evacuated the patient on a stretcher.

On Friday, 13 volunteers helped paramedics with a fisherman who had collapsed through a wooden fishing platform in Parbold. The fisherman sustained a lower leg fracture.

Early on Saturday afternoon police received a call about two walkers who were lost in the Holme House Fell area in the Trough of Bowland.

Seventeen rescue team members searched in the dense fog on the fells the walkers were found and walked safely off the hill to Bleasdale, where they were checked over before returning to their car in Chipping.

On Monday, in the early hours, volunteers were called on to help the search for a missing 85-year-old in Parbold.
