LOCAL schools, community groups and individuals are being given the chance to travel by train for free when they enter a creative arts competition this January and February – and they don’t even have to win to receive the benefit.

As part of the Northern Network, Bolton stations are working with Community Rail Lancashire to encourage more young women and girls to travel by train and to work in the rail industry where women are vastly under represented.

Young women and girls under 25 who enter the award-winning competition can claim a day trip to and from any location on the Northern Network – which serves the majority of Northern England.

Entrants who want to get involved simply need to create a piece of writing, photography, artwork or video reflecting their views on railway use or employment.

They should then submit their entry via email to info@downtheline.org.uk with the email title “Women in STEM Competition Entry” by 14th February 2020.

Daisy Chapman-Chamberlain from Community Rail Lancashire said: “We’re very proud of our annual ‘Women in STEM’ campaign, and thrilled that each year it goes from strength to strength."
