KEEP the second fire engine at Ellesmere Port Fire Station - that is the message from the town's MP.
Ellesmere Port and Neston MP, Justin Madders, has set up an online petition urging the authority to keep two fire engines in the town.
It follows the publication of Cheshire Fire Authority’s draft emergency response plans for the next four years.
The current fleet of vehicles at Ellesmere Port Fire Station includes two fire engines but the new plans reduce this to just one.
Justin Madders said: “Ellesmere Port is a growing town with more and more houses being built as well of course as a long standing large industrial base which needs fire cover. I know that a decade of austerity has hit the fire service hard and that they probably have less engines across the board than is ideal, but I am also convinced that there is a strong case for the retention of two engines in Ellesmere Port and that the people of this town should not be the ones who have to lose out again.”
“I have therefore set up an online petition to request that Cheshire Fire Authority retain two engines in Ellesmere Port and would encourage local people to sign up. It will also be possible to sign the petition at the constituency office.”
