A MAN has died after a serious motorway crash this morning.

The M602 is closed in both directions as a result of the collision near to Eccles, which involved a lorry and a car.

Police have confirmed that a 61-year-old man was killed in the accident, which occured shortly before midday, while another two casualties have been seriously injured.

Congestion is reported back to junction 11 of the M62 at Birchwood on the eastbound carriageway and on the M60.

The M602 is expected to remain closed for several hours this afternoon.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “There are currently significant road closures in place on the M602 between Manchester and Salford.

“At around 11.50am on Friday, police were called to reports of a collision involving two vehicles.

“Emergency services are currently in attendance.

“The road is closed in both directions between junctions one and two and is expected to remain that way for several hours.

“We would advise people to avoid the area where possible.

“No arrests have been made and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.“

Diversions are in place as a result, with several fire engines on the scene.
