A COMMUNITY centre has been granted permission to use temporary cabins as a teaching and studying area while renovation work takes place.

The two modular portable cabins are already in place at the Nightingale Community Centre in Rishton Lane.

The applicant, a Muslim charity called Dawat-E-Islami, was granted planning permission to use the cabins for two years on Friday.

The modular buildings, which are located less than a metre apart, are less than three metres tall.

They have been sited on a tarmacked area to the south of the building.

The cabins will be specifically used for teaching and studying areas whilst renovation work is being carried out to the main building, according to a report by planning officers.

The building was historically used as a school, then a social club and has been occupied since 2006 by Bolton Community Association who provide social, recreational and educational activities for the over 50s, women, children and young people.

The area is predominantly residential, bounded by properties on Rudolph Street, Arlington Street and Nightingale Walk.

St Simon and St Judes Church is also located adjacent to the site.

Plans for two dwellings have also been approved on the area of land to the south facing Forester Hill Avenue.
