POLICE have confirmed that a four-month-old baby is in a critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Paramedics rushed to a home in Capitol Close, near Moss Bank Park, after reports that the young girl had gone into cardiac arrest shortly after 8pm on Sunday.

A police spokesman told The Bolton News: "At around 8pm on Sunday January 19, police were called by paramedics responding to reports a baby had gone in to cardiac arrest at a property on Capitol Close, Bolton.

"A four month old girl was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical but stable condition.

"An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

"No arrests have been made."

The house has now been closed off but investigators have been coming in and out of the building since the initial incident.

One resident described seeing a large number of police in the area.

"The first thing we saw was three police cars and a small ambulance but then a couple of hours later a larger ambulance arrived and some unmarked police cars," he said."

"One car pulled up and two guys got out and sprinted around the corner towards the house.

"Since then there have been crime scene vans here but it doesn't look like there's anything happening at the house now."

A spokesman for the ambulance service said paramedics had treated a patient at the home who was then taken to hospital.

She said: "We were called to a private address in Capitol Close at 7.53pm.

"We attended with an ambulance and two rapid response vehicles and we took a patient to hospital."
