AN open day has been staged to showcase what a well-established physiotherapy enterprise has to offer.

Cosgroves Physiotherapy has touched down in new purpose-built premises off Church Road, Westhoughton.

And staff are looking to welcome a new wave of customers after moving their operation, which covers everything from sports massage, manipulation and acupuncture, to diet advice and personal training, from Ashcrofts Farm, in Chorley Road.

A Cosgroves spokesman said: “We needed more space to enable us to have the ability to have more physiotherapists working at one time.

“This lets us help more patients and offer a better service."

The firm was established more than 20 years ago by former Mr UK title holder Stuart Cosgrove.

He qualified as a physiotherapist in 1982 and continued his physiotherapy career in tandem with his bodybuilding exploits.

Stuart’s client work down the years has included an eight-year stint with former world light-welterweight and welterweight champion Ricky Hatton.

And he has also been able to treat world bodybuilding champions such as Ernie Taylor and Dorian Yates.

He said: “We pride ourselves on our ability to treat many physical conditions that have proved difficult to treat using a standard physiotherapy approach.

“Many patients come to us with long standing chronic conditions such as lower back pain and have been down every standard avenue of treatment, usually with a varied array of diagnoses, all to no avail.

“Our first approach is to empathise with their situation, but then to offer them the hope that in most instances our treatment methods can work for them when others have failed.”

Stuart was also a lecturer on a masters degree course for strength and conditioning at Bolton University, as well as being a speaker at medical institutes and sports injury conferences.
