LANTERN-light tours of one of Bolton's most loved historic buildings are back by popular demand.

Tour guide Barry Massey will once again reveal the secrets of the Victoria Halls, which date back to 1898.

And so popular have the tours been, Barry, who is part of the Victoria Halls heritage team, will put on tours for private parties .

Tours take visitors through the labyrinth maze of passages and hidden rooms in the undergrounds passageways below the main hall.

And it should come as no surprise that those exploring the 122-year-old building that they may meet a few guests on the way.

The Bolton News:

Apparently, according to Barry, some people have heard voices, others feel a touch on their shoulder and some believe in a ghost called Ada, a member of the church in the 1950s.

Barry said: "As a member of the heritage team and the drama group and also a church member since 1958 I get to take groups of tours around our fabulous building.

"You would be surprised how many people have never been inside the main hall never mind walked around the maze of corridors and up and down the stairs.

"Do you know that the Projection box used to show films before the first cinema opened in Bolton in 1910 is still there at the top of the building?"

Private tours for 10 to 20 people can be booked through the Victoria Halls by visiting www.victoriahallbolton.co.uk/

Barry said: "If you want to see the building on a night tour then look for the details on the posters around the building or again on our website."

Lantern led tours of Victoria Hall so far this year will take place on March 6 and March 27. Tickets cost £7 which includes refreshments — and spooky stories!
