ONE of Bolton's brightest young talents has proved her credentials at a leading industry awards night.

Helen Wood, a fourth-year apprentice at MBDA, was one of those shortlisted for the Bolton Business Awards' young person/apprentice of the year.

And now she has scooped the top honours in a similar category at Make UK, the manufacturers organisation.

Helen said: "Winning this award is a proud moment. It's the pat on the back that we sometimes need that helps us to realise the good job we've done.

"This award has allowed me to appreciate the opportunities I've been given and how much my skills and knowledge have developed over the years without even realising.

"It's a really positive way to end what has already been a great four years on the MBDA business scheme.

"By winning this award, I hope to encourage more young people to consider apprenticeships and to consider the benefits they can get from a scheme like mine compared to more traditional routes."

Helen was nominated for the Bolton award after undertaking ambassadorial duties for the apprenticeships programme at the Lostock weapons manufacturer, touring schools and colleges.
