A road has been closed in Farnworth after a suspected unexploded bomb has been found.

Bradford Road is shut between Green Lane and Bishops Road, and residents have been asked to leave their homes.

A resident of Bradford Road said: "My wife just phoned me and told me that she had to get out the house and the police were knocking on the door.

"One of our neighbours was digging in the back garden and found something that looked a bit suspicious.

"All the roads are blocked off, I've just looked on my doorbell camera and it's still all blocked off."

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 12.05pm today (Monday 10 February 2020) police were made aware of an item – possibly from World War Two – found in a garden on Bradford Road in Bolton.

"EOD are making their way to the scene to assess the item - a number of nearby addresses have been evacuated as a precaution and some road closures are in place in the local vicinity.

"Officers are advising the public to stay away from the area at this time."
