A DRIVER had a lucky escape after careering off the motorway and ploughing into a tree.
Dramatic photos have captured the aftermath of the horrific crash in which a white Volkswagen Golf lost control on the M60.
The car had been approaching Simister Island when the driver clipped other vehicles before leaving the carriageway and smashing into a tree.
The impact was so forceful that the Golf's battered engine was flung from the front end of the car.
Debris was also showered across the motorway embankment around where the pulverised vehicle came to a stop.
Miraculously no one was injured in the crash.
There were minor delays for sometime on the M60 anti-clockwise while the emergency services and traffic officers dealt with the aftermath of the incident.
In a tweet GMP Traffic said: "Minor delays on the anti-clockwise M60 on approach to Simister after a collision where this Golf clipped others and left the carriageway.
"Trees are usually unforgiving, and on this occasion removed the vehicle's engine. No injuries, recovery en route."
