BOLTON South-East MP Yasmin Qureshi has won a promise from justice secretary Robert Buckland that new legislation will prevent domestic abusers grilling their victims in court.
Labour justice spokeswoman Ms Qureshi told the cabinet minister in the Commons: "At the moment, the justice system is failing the most vulnerable victims. Far too often, domestic abusers are using the family and criminal courts to publicly re-traumatise their victims. Will you ensure no woman is callously and unjustly cross-examined by her abuser."
Mr Buckland replied: "The provisions in the Domestic Abuse Bill relating to the prohibition of cross-examination by perpetrators are so important, and they will remain in the Bill when it is reintroduced."
