A YOUTH band has come up with a creative alternative to their regular rehearsals by live-streaming the sessions.

Kearsley Youth Brass Band normally meets on Tuesdays to practice, but the recent coronavirus advice has led them to cancel all rehearsals and concerts.

Instead of letting the band miss out on the much-loved sessions, Mark Harrison, the musical director, decided to run a live-stream on Facebook for members to join in as usual.

Rhiannon Harrison, his wife and the secretary of the group, said: "It was fantastic, it superseded our expectations because there was always a problem when we tested it so to have it come off without a hitch was great.

"We have one family that has three girls in the band and the mum is learning and they said it was amazing to just play along loud and proud without worrying if anything was wrong.

"Whilst we have to, we will replace our Tuesday night rehearsals with this stream, and if there's anyone out there stuck at home, please get in touch.

"We have a store full of instruments and we're happy to bring them round and clean them up and give you something to do. You can join in the rehearsal or we can give you online lessons through Skype.

"We might have 'Youth' in the name but we're a community band above anything."
