The RSPCA has reassured the public that they will carry on helping animals in Greater Manchester during the coronavirus pandemic.

Chief executive Chris Sherwood said: "Thanks to our amazing, dedicated and professional team of staff and volunteers, the RSPCA is still rescuing and rehoming animals in these difficult times.

"We are having to change the way we work, but please be assured we are doing everything we can make sure that we get help to the animals most in need.

"There is a great deal of anxiety, worry and concern at the moment. Being around animals can bring great pleasure, companionship and mental health benefits, so we hope people will draw comfort form spending time with their pets and watching wildlife to help them through the months ahead."

The RSPCA runs 17 animal centres, four wildlife centres and four animal hospitals across England and Wales.

Their officers will be regularly handwashing before and after handling animals, asking people to bring animals to to the door where appropriate and making sure their vans are clean.

They advise those with COVID-19 symptoms not to visit their rescue centres or hospitals.

The run a 24-hour rescue line, although they encourage people to check with their website first. Visit www.rspca.org.uk or call 0300 1234 999.
