MAGISTRATES have fined a man £120 after he was caught drug driving and without insurance.

Police stopped Jake Stott’s Ford Fiesta on Gaskell Street, Bolton, just before 11pm on October 22 last year.

Shazia Aslam, prosecuting at Bolton Magistrates’ Court, said checks revealed Stott, of Horace Street, Bolton, was not insured to drive the vehicle.

“Whilst carrying out the checks the officers smelled cannabis and asked the defendant to provide a saliva test,” said Mrs Aslam. “That proved to be positive.”

Stott, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to committing the offences.

“I don’t have much to say about it – I have done wrong,” Stott told the court.

In addition to the fine, Stott was banned from driving for 18 months and ordered to pay £117 in costs and charges.
