New measures to help prevent the spread of coronavirus have been implemented at supermarkets across Bolton.

The Morrisons store on Black Horse Street now has banners up asking people to collect their trolleys and queue outside as they restrict the number of customers inside the shop at one time.

One shopper said: "Most people were fine to queue. There wasn't a massive line, it was probably about five shoppers deep. A couple of people saw the queue and left."

Meanwhile, supermarket chains including Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons and Waitrose have announced new “Covid-19 screens” will be placed around tills at stores to protect staff and shoppers.

David Potts, chief executive of Morrisons said: “We want to do our bit to help customers and colleagues from being affected and to help everyone observe social distancing at our checkouts.

"This will help us to continue to play our full part in feeding the nation – it’s more than our job.”

At Aldi stores there will be two metre markers installed on the floor, along with a series of new notices reminding customers of the importance of social distancing.
