RESIDENTS at Abafields Residential Home were delighted to receive food donated by Burger King earlier this week.

Burger King was one of the many food outlets which had to close on Monday due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Instead of throwing away the fresh food, they chose to donate it to the care home, on Bromwich Street, so residents could enjoy it.

Care home manager Grace Threlfall said: “One of the representatives from Burger King came to the door and said that they were obviously closing because of coronavirus, which is very sad.

“But they had some salad, buns and milk that were left over, so they asked us if we could accept it for our residents.

“It’s such a shame that they have to close. They came back with lots of food.

“The residents have really enjoyed it all. They had a lovely salad for tea yesterday and they’ve enjoyed eating the barm cakes too.

“It’s lovely to receive the food. Our own suppliers are working hard to keep us well stocked as well.”

On Monday, the Government announced that restaurants would have to close under strict new measures to keep coronavirus under control.
