One of Bolton's biggest pet superstores is changing its opening hours to help those with pets during the coronavirus.

Jolly's pet store, in Astley Bridge Retail Park, offered special opening hours for essential workers and the elderly and vulnerable last week, from 6 to 7pm.

However, as most were still going to the store at normal times and to keep fully on top of stocking and cleaning the store, the shop is resorting to reduced working hours.

The shop will be open this week from 9am to 6pm, instead of the normal 9am to 8pm.

Paul Heneghan, the store manager, described the last week as "strange", with people concerned about how they would get their pet supplies; however, the weekend had been a bit quieter with things returning more to normal.

He said: "We had a lot of phone calls from people who were self-isolating with concerns about what might be available for their pets.

"The shelves are starting to return to normal but people should only be coming for essentials.

"We had to suspend home delivery due to demand, but the situation is changing day by day, and we have social distancing measures in place so it is still safe to come if people need to."
