A COMMUNITY network charity is teaming up with other hardworking borough groups to look after vulnerable people during the coronavirus outbreak.

Bolton CVS is rallying with a number of causes to ensure people such as the elderly get the support they need during the lockdown.

And the organisation, which is based on Bold Street, launched an appeal for volunteers to get involved in their efforts on March 20 with 350 people signing up since then.

CEO Darren Knight said: "We have had a really positive response to the volunteer scheme.

"It is at times likes this when we see people pulling together.

"Urban Outreach have also had a good response from their appeal and they are busy working to get people to drop off non-perishable foods.

"We also have our 'How to be a Good Neighbour in Bolton' initiative in which we are encouraging people to check if their neighbours need anything at the moment."

Grants of up to £1,000 are also being awarded to causes that are helping people during the health crisis.

One of the schemes the charity has rolled out in recent years is, Giving Back in Bolton, which provides volunteering roles for people with criminal records to help forge careers for them in the future.
