The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Blackburn with Darwen has risen by eight according to latest figures.

It comes after the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England published their UK daily totals in regards to the pandemic.

It means the total number of people to have tested positive in the borough is now standing at 71 compared to yesterday's figure of 63.

Elsewhere, Lancashire's cases have also increased dramatically to 838 which is up by 112 on the previous days statistics, which stood at 726.

Blackpool's total now stands at 72.

This brings the total cases in Lancashire as a whole to just under 1,000 at 981.

Nationally, as of 9am on April 6, a total of 51,608 people in the UK have tested positive for the virus.

As of 5pm on April 5, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus, 5,373 people have sadly died, an increase of 439 on yesterday's figures.

The number of confirmed coronavirus-related deaths in England has now hit 4,897, with 43 more deaths in the North West taking the total to 552. 

There have been no new reported coronavirus related deaths in Blackburn with Darwen.
