A section of motorway had to be closed between two junctions due to a 'concern for safety', police have said.
Officers were called at around 3.55pm to Blackburn Road, Clayton le Moors, close to the M65.
A spokesperson for the police said: "We were called at around 3.55pm to Blackburn Road, Clayton le Moors, close to the M65, to reports of a concern for safety."
At around 5.15pm on Tuesday, Highways England tweeted that both carriageways on the M65 between junction seven for Clitheroe/Accrington and junction eight for Huncoat were closed.
The tweet said: "The M65 both carriageways from junction seven Clitheroe/Accrington to junction eight Huncoat/A56) is currently closed due to a Police incident.
"Traffic Officers and Lancs Road Police are currently at the scene."
Traffic officers and the road police attended the scene and the carriageways were re-opened shortly before 6pm.
The police spokesperson added:"The incident has now been resolved and the motorway, which was closed in both directions, has now reopened."
