The number of confirmed coronavirus cases has risen again today, with Blackburn with Darwen seeing another 15 people diagnosed with the virus.

Latest figures from the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England published on Tuesday afternoon show the total number of people to have tested positive in the borough is now standing at 86 compared to yesterday's figure of 71.

The news comes as there have been no new reported deaths in Blackburn with Darwen since Sunday, with the death toll for the borough still standing at 16.

Elsewhere, Lancashire's confirmed cases have also increased to 923 which is up by 85 on the previous days statistics, which stood at 838.

Blackpool's total now stands at 85 compared to 72 yesterday.

This brings the total cases in Lancashire as a whole to 1,094 compared to 981 on Monday.

There have also been three more reported deaths in Blackpool, taking the borough's death toll total to 19.

Nationally, as of 9am on April 7, a total of 55,242 people in the UK have tested positive for the virus, up 3,634 on Monday's total of 51,608.

As of 5pm on April 6, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus, 6,159 people have sadly died, an increase of 786 on yesterday's figures of 5,373.

The number of confirmed coronavirus-related deaths in England has now hit 5,655 an increase of 758 on yesterday's totals of 4,897.

There have been 6,090 confirmed cases in the North West and 90 more deaths taking the total number of deaths across the region to 642. 

There have been no new reported coronavirus related deaths in Blackburn with Darwen.

Age wise, out of 5,655 deaths, 5,203 people who have lost their lives have been aged 60 or above, with 2,944 of those deaths being amongst people aged 80 and over.
