A KNIFE amnesty bin remains in place in at Bolton Police Station during the coronavirus lockdown.

The facility, as part of the Forever Amnesty knife scheme across Greater Manchester, gives people the chance to hand in blades at the station anonymously.

But Greater Manchester Police is also urging residents to follow the Government guidelines of only leaving their homes when it is "absolutely necessary".

Detective Superintendent Chris Downey said: “At this time, the Forever Amnesty bins are still in place.

"However our advice to people at this time remains the same; stay home, stay safe and help protect the NHS – only go out if it’s absolutely necessary.

“Due to the current climate, the Forever Amnesty bins will not be emptied unless they are full.

"During this period, the emptying of bins is not essential.

"When the bins are eventually opened, this will be a controlled process.”
