USAGE of online library resources has increased significantly since the coronavirus lockdown began, Bolton Council has revealed.

Although libraries in Bolton are currently closed due to the lockdown, residents can still access a variety of resources such as e-books and e-magazines which are available online.

More people have accessed digital books, audio books and magazines since the coronavirus outbreak, a trend which is not just occurring in Bolton but across the nation too as people find new ways to keep themselves occupied while staying at home.

A spokesman for Bolton Council said: “Nationally, new online library memberships have increased dramatically as people look for ways to entertain themselves during the coronavirus lockdown, and Bolton Council’s libraries are no different with a surge in requests for digital resources.

“Issues of e-audio books have increased by 48% since the outbreak began, e-books have seen an increase of 59% and e-magazines issues are up by 79%.

“A new ‘At Home with Bolton Library and Museum Services’ online service has also been launched, with different activities every day on social media.”

The library resources available online can also be a useful tool for parents who are home schooling their children.

The library’s online At Home service offers people a chance to discover different topics from the comfort of their own home.

Videos available online give people the chance to digitally visit the aquarium or discover collections held in the art gallery and museum.

There are also online tutorials to get people inspired to create artwork.
