Police have thanked "the majority of people" for staying inside during the coronavirus crisis.

Officers from GMP Bolton North shared some pictures of the empty town centre on their Twitter page yesterday evening.

The shots of the deserted streets were accompanied by a thank you message to the public.

It read: "The majority of people in Bolton are following the guidance and for this, we want to sincerely thank you.

"You are saving people’s lives."

Under current coronavirus restrictions, people are only allowed to make essential trips for food shopping, medicine, or medical treatment.

Those who are unable to work from home are still able to travel to their place of work.

Anyone who does leave the house is encouraged to stay 2m away from other people at all times, washing their hands as soon as they get home.
