URGENT action is needed at a Breightmet junction after five serious crashes.

Mark Logan, Member of Parliament for Bolton North, has called for authorities to ensure that those living around the dangerous site are protected.

The junction at Tetbury Drive with Breightmet Fold Lane has seen at least five major accidents in recent years, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

The elected official said: “I fully support the affected residents and agree that action needs to be taken now in order to prevent any further accidents.

“The safety of residents is our top priority and should not be forgone under any circumstance”

“We must find a way to alleviate the situation at Tetbury Drive where it converges with Breightmet Fold Lane, in order to protect the safety of our fellow residents.

“I further appeal to drivers to be considerate when driving and slow down for the sake of our local residents’ welfare.”

Mr Logan, who was elected for the first time as the Conservative candidate for the area in December, believes Breightmet residents have seen a “concerning” amount of crashes in the area.

He has pushed Greater Manchester Police to assess the issue, and is campaigning for speed-reducing measures to be put into place.

According to Mr Logan's office, Bolton Council has previously been reluctant to introduce traffic calming measures, such as speed bumps, at the junction because of a lack of funding and no real evidence that the measures would be successful.

Last Friday, a man was arrested after crashing his car into a garden at the junction.

The 26-year-old driver was tested for drugs and Greater Manchester Police said that he was found to be under the influence of cocaine.
