THE ROYAL BOLTON Hospital is edging closer to recording 200 deaths of people who died with coronavirus.

The latest figures show that there have been a total of 192 deaths at the hospital due to the virus. The total does not include people who have died in care homes or the community.

No new deaths were recorded as occurring on Saturday and Sunday but that may be due to delays in reporting them because of the bank holiday weekend.

Over the previous week 15 people died at the hospital with the virus.

Nationally, in English hospitals, a total of 23,359 people have died, with 21,325 of them over the age of 60.

However, since a daily peak of 886 deaths on April 8 the number has been reducing and, since May 7, has been under 200.

In the North West, where a total of 3,545 people have died with Covid-19, a daily peak of 135 deaths on April 11 dropped to 36 by May 6.

Figures updated by the Office for National Statistics on Sunday afternoon reveal that 890 people in Bolton have tested positive for coronavirus, a rate of 311.9 per 100,000 of the population.

In England 135,982 people have tested positive, a rate of 242.9 per 100,000.
