Police are appealing for witnesses following a crash between a van and a cyclist yesterday afternoon at Rivington.

Emergency services were called to the incident, which happened at the junction of Horrobin Lane and New Road, Anderton, just after 5.20pm.

An air ambulance later arrived at the scene. 

A male cyclist, riding an electric mountain bike, suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital.

Police are looking for anyone who might have dash cam footage of the crash or saw the incident.

A spokeswoman for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 5.23pm yesterday to a road traffic collision involving a bike and a van on New Road.

"We sent a rapid response vehicle, a land ambulance, advanced paramedic and air ambulance and treated a patient with serious leg injuries. We took the patient to Royal Preston Hospital."

A spokeswoman for Lancashire Police said: "Officers in Chorley are appealing for witnesses after a collision between a bicycle and a van.

"The incident occurred at around 5.25pm yesterday, May 12 at the junction of Horrobin Lane and New Road, Anderton.

"The cyclist suffered serious injuries after he entered the junction from Horrobin Lane on his adapted electric mountain bike and collided with a Peugeot boxer van which was travelling along New Road, towards Chorley. He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital to be treated for his injuries where he remains.

"Officers are now appealing for independent witnesses to assist in their enquiries. They would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash cam footage of the van or the bike in the moments prior to the incident.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Lancashire Police on 101 quoting log number 0964 May 12."
