A FAMILY man sent a sexually explicit picture to someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl.

David Ormrod, of Elder Drive, Bolton, admitted to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child when he appeared at Manchester Minshull Street Court.

The 62-year-old gave an indicated guilty plea at an earlier hearing.

Prosecuting, Brian Berlyne, said Ormrod sent messages to someone he believed to be a 13-year-old girl called Georgia Baxter, but it was a profile set up by an undercover police officer.

Mr Berlyne said: "On July 12, 2018, a 'Georgia Baxter' joined various Kik chat groups.

"On the same day a message was sent to that profile from Mr Ormrod saying simply 'hi'.

"His profile appeared, it showed what appeared to be a genuine photograph of him.

"On July 16, 2018, 'Georgia Baxter' began to exchange messages with Mr Ormrod.

"She confirmed that she was 13, he told her that he was 60.

"And very early in the conversation he asked her if she had a boyfriend. He then asked her if she had kissed him.

"He asked if she had any breasts yet.

"He asked her if she was tempted to have sex with her boyfriend and whether she would like to sex. She said no.

"Shortly after that he asked her if she knew how to masturbate a boy. She said no.

"He told her to 'Google it'. He then sent her a photograph of a male naked from the waist down exposing his erect penis.

"And he suggested she visit a pornography website to see people masturbating. He then suggested that she could masturbate him.

"When she asked 'how?', he replied 'meet you'. She replied 'are you serious, don't know you properly' and thereafter he did not respond any further."

Ormrod was arrested in October 2018 and his iPad, hard drive and computer were seized. The iPad contained evidence he had used Kik, which he had begun to use due to boredom.

In mitigation, Paul Becker, said he has expressed "regret and remorse". Ormrod, who had a tough upbringing, has no previous convictions and has had counselling.

The defendant also pleaded not guilty to attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act and no evidence was offered by the prosecution.

Judge Timothy Stead told Ormrod to complete 50 hours of unpaid work, carry out up to 25 days of rehabilitation and issued him with a five-year sexual harm prevention order.

He was told to pay a victim services surcharge and £300 in court costs.
