MAGISTRATES have jailed a driver for 11 months after he careered through Bolton at speeds of up to 100mph.

Wigan and Leigh magistrates heard how there was a sustained police chase through residential streets on May 13 as Aiden Sherlock hurtled along Folds Road, Tonge Moor Road, Darwen Road, Blackburn Road and Bolton Road in a Ford Mondeo.

The court heard that he was already banned from holding a driving licence, had no insurance and was handling stolen vehicle number plates

Sherlock, aged 25, of Starkie Road, Bolton, pleaded guilty to committing the offences and failing to stop for police as well as breaching a previously imposed suspended prison sentence for assault and criminal damage. Jailing Sherlock for the most recent offences the court heard that his driving had “put the public at serious risk of harm”.

He was banned from applying for a driving licence for 18 months, after which he will have to take an extended driving test and was ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge.
