An academy has been helping its children with the stresses surrounding a possible return to school by creating a "mindfulness trail" to improve everyone's wellbeing.

St Bede Primary Academy, in Morris Green Lane, has set up 15 stations around the school, each with a different activity to promote wellbeing, such as yoga, for the children of key workers who remain at school during the coronavirus.

This is also in place for children who may be returning to school soon to help them deal with that difficult change.

Kate Penarski and Jessica Elsworth, teachers at St Bedes, help set up the activities with the children, to help them focus on their wellbeing at this time, and has shared this with other schools across the country for a small fee, to raise money for the NHS and mental health charities.

She said: "We started talking to the kids about it and we did a big idea sheet. We came up with hundreds of ideas to do every few weeks.

"It's a way of taking them out of their thoughts, thinking about happy places.

"We've had some really good feedback from the children.

"We ask them how they feel and they say how relaxed they are and that they had so much fun.

"We've set up group mentors to help set up and run the activities, giving the kids leadership in this.

"It's making them feel good about themselves in this period."
