A man who shot a pensioner in the arm with an air rifle and threatened to kill others, before ramming his van into a number of vehicles is set to appear in court.

Detectives investigating the shooting, which took place at a caravan site in Clayton-le-Dale on May 14, have today charged 37-year-old Thomas Beard Junior with criminal damage, ABH, possession of a firearm and threats to kill.

Police were called to Longsight Road, just after 9pm on Thursday May 14, after receiving reports a man had been shot with an air rifle.

A police spokesperson said: "Emergency services attended and found the victim, a man in his 60s, with a pellet lodged in his armpit.

"After leaving the scene of the initial incident, the offender was seen threatening nearby members of the public with an air rifle.

"He also drove his van into a number of vehicles causing excessive damage, before he was later arrested.

"Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Thomas Beard Junior, 37, from Blackburn, has been charged with criminal damage, ABH, possession of a firearm and threats to kill."

Beard was remanded to appear before Preston Magistrates' Court on June 18.
