A 101-YEAR-old resident at a care home has recovered from coronavirus - to the delight of residents and staff.

Mary Taylor, who goes by the name Lily, is 101-year's-old and tested positive for the virus a few weeks ago, after displaying some symptoms.

She was tested at her residence at Wingates Care Home, Westhoughton, as a precaution and was subsequently isolated from other residents to ensure everyone stayed safe.

Lily was born in Westhoughton and worked as a secretary at British Aerospace, in Lostock, as well as teaching dance classes at a club called the Thursday Club.

Carrie Southworth, Wingates Care Home Manager, described Lily as a much loved resident of the home and that Lily being in isolation was a big loss for the home.

She said: "She had quite a diluted case but had a few symptoms, so we tested her as a precaution which was positive.

"Straight away she said "oh I'm fine" and after just two weeks she's showing no symptoms anymore.

"Nothing gets her down."

The Bolton News:

Despite the diluted case it was still quite a worry for staff and family due to her age who expressed some fear when they were first told the news.

Carrie continued: "Lily is quite a big character in the home and she's made an amazing recovery.

"She's got lots of stories to tell, she's been around a long time and is very well travelled — she always talks about her dancing and being a dance teacher.

"She's so sociable but has just been stuck in her bedroom, we gave her space to walk safely in the hallway as she knows how important it is to keep healthy."

Carrie described how happy Lily is to have recovered and be able to go outside again — coming just in time for the promised sunny weather.

Lily's recovery has come as part of a general improvement of mood at the care home, despite the extremely difficult time it has been through with the coronavirus.

Carrie said: "It's been a really hard for the home with people being unwell.

"Any bit of positive news we get like this is great.

"Every recovery feels like a victory for us , but also for the ones we have lost our heart is heavy."
