VISITORS to Bolton’s newest theme bar in 1988 could get a glimpse of Ancient Rome.
Nero’s on Chorley Old Road opened in the former Ziggi’s premises complete with Italian decor including columns, marble and even indoor fountains.
To emphasise Nero’s Roman theme, the bar staff were all wearing togas for the official opening.
Manager Glenn Taylor said that Nero’s was not a ‘fun pub’ and nothing like its predecessor.
“It is definitely not a fun pub,” he said. “We see it simply as an upmarket pub operating normal pub hours.”
The pub served a range of real ales which although not exactly a traditional Roman tipple were certainly proving popular with drinkers.
