Police called to reports of street parties and people playing football in parks despite coronavirus concerns

Over a two-hour period, multiple reports were logged which included street parties in Old Trafford, over 30 people playing football in Partington, large groups drinking and causing anti-social behaviour in Urmston.

There were also large group gathering in Flixton, over 30 youths causing issues at Trafford Park, barbecues in Altrincham, over 15 children playing inside the park at Sale and multiple reports of house parties and large groups of youths not following social distancing and causing anti-social behaviour.

Chief Inspector Shan Nasim said: “I can appreciate continuing to follow the Government guidance to protect your health can be difficult as the weeks have turned into months.

"However, the vast majority of Trafford residents are following the social distancing measures to keep their family and friends safe.

"Unfortunately, a small minority seem to think that Covid-19 is no longer an issue as they ignore the advice and put themselves and those around them at risk.

“Yesterday, the warm weather had a major impact on the volume of reports we received in a short period of time.

"We currently have a limited number of officers and we try to attend as many reports as possible to engage, educate and where necessary prosecute those that continue to ignore advice. While officers are responding to these reports they are unable to attend other emergency calls.

“The majority of issues last night related to younger people, so I would ask parents and guardians to remind their children about the Government advice to keep everyone in the household safe and well.”

“We all need to keep on playing our part in stopping the spread of Covid-19 to protect our communities.”
