A MAN has been charged with murder in connection with the stabbing of a mum in Billinge.

Melissa Belshaw, 32, was attacked in Upholland Road, Billinge, on Wednesday and died from her injuries.

Police said her 13-year-old daughter rang the emergency services to raise the alarm.

Two men tried to stop the attack and one, in his 40s, was taken to hospital after being stabbed.

Detectives also believe that a third man also intervened and assisted in getting the young girl out of the house and to safety.

Andrew Wadsworth, 36, of Cranfield Road, Wigan has been charged with murder, attempted murder, threats to kill, possession of a bladed article and two counts of assaulting police officers.

He was remanded in custody and appeared before Wigan Magistrates' Court this morning (Friday, May 22).

He has been further remanded and will appear at Manchester Crown Court Crown Square on Tuesday, May 26.

Shortly before 4.10pm on Wednesday, police were called to Upholland Road in Wigan to reports of a stabbing.

Melissa sadly passed away at the scene and a man in his 40s remains in hospital receiving treatment.
