A Bolton MP has called for community chemists to to receive more government support as they are stretched during the coronavirus.

Yasmin Qureshi, MP for Bolton South East, has written a letter to the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock to raise concerns for the "often-unsung heroes in the NHS: Our community pharmacies."

She shared the letter on her Twitter page saying: "Community pharmacies across the country have been working tirelessly to meet the unprecedented demands of Covid-19 but many are now financially struggling and at risk of closing down because of funding cuts and expenses.

"The Govt must do more to support the sector."

In the letter Ms Qureshi highlights the problems Bolton chemists have coped with.

She says: "I was concerned to learn from the Bolton Pharmaceutical Committee that some pharmacy teams in Bolton are unable to access PPE.

"Many pharmacies are unable to maintain social distancing as dispensaries are often small."

"I urge you to do more to recognise their critical role in our communities and provide them with the support they need."
