A LOCKDOWN protest leader has returned to a seafront with a crowd of followers as they demand the restrictions are lifted.

Calls of “save our rights, save our freedom” could be heard on Hove seafront as a group of about 20 people marched along the promenade.

A passerby said: “I saw lots of people sarcastically cheering them.

“But I’m not sure what they even actually want. I think some people just enjoy protesting.”

The Argus:

Louise Creffield is the leader of the Brighton arm of lockdown protest movement Save Our Rights UK, and was seen taking part in the march.

Last week, the 33-year-old told The Argus: “We are doing this for the benefit of everybody.

“The whole premise of our group is that we are pro-rights and there is no doubt about it that human rights are being infringed upon.”

But she admitted it was a tough task to stick to social distancing guidelines when leading the protests. She said she would try to encourage this, but it was “like herding cats”.

This is not the first protest the group has had in Brighton and Hove.

On May 18, a group of about 30 people marched along the seafront - shown in the videos above and below.

Some held banners saying “no 5G,” but Ms Creffield said this was not the focus of the campaigners.

She said: “There are members of our group who feel strongly, but our group is not about that.

“Do I believe there should be an independent safety check? Yes. You can’t sell a toaster without doing an independent safety check.”

However, the former member of Labour’s Executive Committee’s actions have drawn criticism.

Kemptown Labour MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle said: “I’m afraid what she is doing is tantamount to bonkers.

“By going on protests about this, linked with 5G, it’s so bonkers that you have no credibility in political discourse in my view.”
